About Dr. Ali Ssetaala

Dr. Ali Ssetaala is a Medical Doctor who received his Doctor of Medicine degree at Muhimbili University College of Health and Allied Sciences, Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. He has a Masters in International Primary Health Care from the University College London (UCL).
Dr Ssetaala is currently working as the Field Studies Coordinator with the UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program based in Entebbe, Uganda. He is involved in the development and implementation of epidemiological studies in fishing communities along Lake Victoria in Uganda since 2008. He is also involved in the conduct of phase I/II HIV vaccine trials.
Dr. Ali was a member of a national level committee in Uganda that synthesized evidence from studies in fishing communities to help guide the response to the HIV epidemic got these marginalized communities. Dr Ssetaala’s research interests are mainly HIV prevention research including but not limited to vaccines.
