About Dr. Saidi Kapiga
Dr. Saidi Kapiga is the founding Scientific Director of the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) in Tanzania and a Reader in Epidemiology and International Health in the Department of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
Prior to establishing MITU in 2007 Dr. Kapiga was an Associate Professor of Reproductive Health at Harvard School of Public Health. For more than 25 years he has led multiple studies of AIDS, investigating the biological and social factors associated with increased risk and vulnerability, and developing and testing of HIV/STI interventions.
He is also involved in studies to describe the epidemiology of chronic diseases, including non-communicable diseases, and a trial to assess the impact of micro-finance and gender training on sexual intimate partner violence in northwestern Tanzania.
