About Heiner Grosskurth
Heiner Grosskurth is Professor of Epidemiology and International Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
Since joining the School in 1991, his research has focused on reproductive health in the context of sub-Saharan Africa and India. Since 2010, he expanded his work to include research on health services with respect to non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
As visiting professor, he is currently based at the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) in Mwanza, Tanzania, where he is involved in studies of the epidemiology of NCDs and HIV infection, strategies to improve the effectiveness of health services in the prevention of and care for NCDs and HIV infection, research on sexually transmitted diseases (particularly Mycoplasma genitalis), the epidemiology of alcohol use (AU) and AU disorders among young people, and on how these different health problems affect fishing communities around Lake Victoria.
